DIY Camping Hammocks 101 – Introduction

September 5, 2012

Hopefully you had a look at the DIY Camping Hammocks 101 – Preface, before coming here, and have spent at least a little time looking over some of the links there. From here on I will assume that you have a working familiarity with hammocks and hammock camping

Hammocks for camping can be broken down into a few parts, some parts are essential, while some are needed only in certain times or are a matter of preference.   Over the next few weeks (okay, maybe months) I will post each section in turn, with details on how to make them yourself and with a few options.  Here are the main parts as I see them.

  1. Hammock
    1. Body
    2. Suspension
      1. Ridgeline
  2. Tarp
  3. Under/Over Quilt
  4. Bug Net
  5. Storage Sacks

I will come back and link these later to the subsequent posts.

You and your wife lead such busy lives! How you will squeeze in blogging should be interesting 🙂 Seriously – I had to tell you how much I love the hammocks in class. I would have NEVER went home if my parish school had hammocks to read in!!!!! Angel Cole – Virginia Merritt’s friend and my second Mom ❤

  2. Thanks Angel. I always seem to get a wild hair about something or another. The hammocks have turned out to be something everyone loves. I am just about to start making 9 more!
